A delegation led by the Indian Minister of Science and Technology Kapil Sibal paid a visit to the CAS National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (NCNST) and the CAS Beijing Institute of Genomic (BIG) on September 7 and 9, respectively.
On separate occasions, NCNST vice director ZHU Xing and BIG vice director YU Jun received and met with the Indian guests, who were briefed with the information about the establishment background, organizational structure, research orientations and international cooperation of the two institutions. Besides, after being shown a couple of laboratories, Minister Kapil Sibal spoke highly of the achievements by the scientists and expressed his wish that China and India should whip up broader exchange and cooperation in the future.
The Minister also conveyed that the Indian Government has been putting significant emphasis on the S&T exchange and cooperation with China, and suggested the two sides accelerate the bilateral corporation through holding workshops and seminars, constituting an exchange visits system and establishing grant programs. Further more, he hopes more Chinese scientist could visit India.
The visit was carried out also to celebrate the China-India Friendship Year 2006. The Indian ambassador to China, Nalin Surie, and other officials from Indian Ministry of Science and Technology and Indian Embassy in China joined the delegation.
